Welcome to Primary 7!

Primary 7 is a busy year where the children learn to become more independent learners as they prepare for transition to secondary school.

We have lots of things to look forward to and we'll be learning lots of new skills. Keep an eye on our class page to see all the exciting things we get up to this year!

Reading

It is important to read with your child each night, this will increase their vocabulary, fluency and comprehension skills. Ask questions along the way. Please ensure your child reads a variety of material.

Mental Maths

It is important that you practise the mental maths focus for the week with your child each night, this will aid them in all areas of their numeracy learning.

PE

PE is on a Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child comes to school in jogging bottoms and trainers each week.

Homework

While there will be no written homework set there will be occasional tasks to be completed on Google Classroom – it is important that the children get used to online learning platforms such as Google Drive as this will be hugely beneficial when they transition to secondary school.

Reading, spellings and maths facts will still be set on a weekly basis and should be practised on a daily basis.

• Spellings and Mental Maths

From Monday to Wednesday spellings must be learned. There will also be mental maths activities to be completed. On Thursdays revise the week’s spellings for the Friday test.

• Reading

Your child will be set reading on a Monday for the week. It is important that they keep up with their reading so they do not fall behind the rest of the group. Please ask your child about what they are reading.

Always TALK to your child about what they are doing in school - this is the best form of home learning you can do. Talk, listen and join in where you can.
