After School

Pupils are consulted annually on which activities they would be most interested in attending.

Choices offered include: soccer, hockey, coding, Art and Craft, multi-sports and Irish dancing.

Activities are organised on the basis of popular choice.

The school considers that the extra-curriculum activities which staff offer add a valuable dimension to the education of the child. Participation in these activities is strongly encouraged, but entirely voluntary.

Extra-curriculum activities run from approximately 3.10pm until 3.50pm.  Transport home must be arranged by parents of children involved.

It is intended that these activities will be reviewed and additional options will be added to reflect all cultures in the developing school community.

Cycling Proficiency

During term 3 Primary 7 pupils have an opportunity to complete a cycling proficiency course in school.

A certificate is awarded to those who complete the course successfully. The school considers that the extra-curricular activities which staff offer, add a valuable dimension to the education of the children. Participation in these activities is strongly encouraged but entirely voluntary. The above activities run from approximately 3.10 until 3.50 p.m.

Transport home must be arranged by the parents of children involved. It is intended that these activities will be reviewed and additional options will be added to reflect all cultures in the developing school community.

Swimming

Primary 5, 6 and 7 classes are timetabled for swimming lessons at the Antrim Forum for a number of weeks under the tuition of a qualified swimming instructor. Girls are requested to wear swimsuits, not bikinis.

Irish Dancing

Irish dancing lessons are available from 2.00pm-3.00pm for P1-3 and from 3.00pm-4.00pm for P4-7.

These lessons are taught by a qualified and experienced dance teacher and a small charge is involved.

Music Tuition

Pupils in Primary 3, 4 and 5 may be selected to learn to play the violin under the tuition of a peripatetic tutor. At present lessons are timetabled for a Friday morning. There is a fee for this tuition as well as a small charge for the loan of the instrument. We are always looking for additional activities, so if you feel you could contribute something, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Educational Visits

Educational visits take place throughout the year.  We very much value the central role these visits can play in a child’s education. There are many benefits to visits, both educationally and socially. Each class participates in at least one visit per year and all classes actively invite visitors into the school to speak to pupils, where appropriate.

Previous trips have included: Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Ulster Museum, W.5, Balmoral Show, Clementsmount Open Farm, Carnfunnock Park, Greenmount Agricultural College, Oxford Island, The Argory.

Opportunities are also taken to use the local environment and local businesses to enhance pupils’  learning eg Crumlin Recycling Centre, Crumlin Glen, Tescos Community Worker, Camlin Credit Union, Crumlin Travel Agent.

During the summer term the Primary 7 children have an opportunity to go on a residential trip to the Share Village in Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to develop independence and confidence and to experience activities such as kayaking, wall climbing, archery, and wind surfing.
